Helping Others in Our Communities

About Us - Lynn Valley Lions
The Lynn Valley Lions Club was chartered Oct. 27, 1970.  Since the original 36 members, the Club has continued to be a low key community focused organization that has significantly contributed to the residents of Lynn Valley and neighboring communities with fundraising events and projects. Currently, there are 35 members that often work in partnership with other North Shore Lions Clubs.  We have one important goal - to help others - and support many programs with public service.
The Lynn Valley Lions also wish to acknowledge the financial assistance of the province of British Columbia by way of a direct access program grant provided to the club each year.

Arts Council Spirit Festival

On Feb 19/11, our club served-up a hotdog cookshack for the North Vancouver Arts Council's Spirit Festival at Shipbuilders Square.  Approximately 1000 people attended during the cold clear evening.  We served approx 500 hotdogs per hour all by donation.  The cold weather limited the event's attendance, so the extra product was delivered to the Union Gospel Mission in Vancouver-open 24/7.  Thanks to members Jimmy, Watson, Bob, Terry, Ken, Blair and especially Eric for all the hard work and preparation.

40th Anniversary

The Lynn Valley Lions 40th Anniversay Party and Robbie Burns dinner Jan 29 at the Eagles Hall was enjoyed by all.  MC Lion Bob Rasmus and addresses by Eric Keller and Al Cummings were extraordinary.  The Haggis was piped in with Peter Black and addressed by Jim Sim.  Highland dancers entertained and Lion Peter Burrell was presented with the Melvin Jones award top honour for outstanding service.  Congradulations Peter!

Olympic ValleyFest Feb. 12-28, 2010

The Pancake Breakfasts Feb 14, 21 and 28 at library Square had typical Olympic line-ups.  Master cooks Warren and Paul with Big Jim BBQing the ham and Lions Eric, Watson, Terry, Clare, Dave and Normie were on hand as servers extraordinaire.  Ed and Garry were on mixing detail and Jim with his pretty friend were nudging the donation box.  Mt Seymour helped host the grills and called themselves the A-Team, but Lynn Valley was there in abundance to make sure they didn't tarnish our reputation.  A huge THANKS to Lion Eric and all Club members who helped make the events so successful with nearly $3000 raised.Torch Day was Wed Feb 9, 2010 and what a great day!  Approximately 5000 cups of hot chocolate and over 1500 bags of popcorn kept hearts glowing for thousands of enthusiastic locals wearing Canadian Red.  Many Thanks to Lion Eric with Lions Barry, Jim, Robb, Watson, Warren, Terry, Peter, Glen, Bob J, George, Carol, Josie, Janine and Norm for support

About Us - Lions International
Lions are volunteer members of clubs grouped under an international organization.  They enjoy fellowship and dedicate time to help those in need, while making their communities better places to live.
Lionism began in Chicago in 1917 when a group of service clubs responded to an ideal presented by a young insurance agent, Melvin Jones.  The ideal was one of service as a group to those in need without regard to politics, religion, race or personal interests.

Our motto is "We Serve".  Our mission is "to create and foster a spirit of understanding through humanitarian needs by providing voluntary services with community involvement and international cooperation.

The emblem consists of a gold letter"L" on a circular purple field.  Two lion profiles border the area and face away from the centre.  Symbolically, Lions face both the past with pride and future with confidence.

Although younger than other service organization, Lions Clubs International has grown to be the largest service club organization in the world.  There are over 1.4 million members in 44,600 clubs located in over 190 countries and geographic area.
